In the interest of being adventurous, I headed out to Lombard with my two littles to meet my friend & her little guy for the noon showing of the movie, What to Expect When You’re Expecting. And yes, we brought our children with us!
the bump and AMC theatres have teamed up to offer “Bring Your Baby Matinees” on the first Tuesday of each month. It’s a great way to catch the newest movies within the comfort of a playmate environment. With brighter lights and lower volumes, breastfeeding, strollers, and crying babies are WELCOME!
{breathe collective sigh of relief}
This month’s movie was particularly crowded (and I overheard this from several women that there seemed to be quite a few more than the usual). Charlie did great! He played on the iPad, ate lunch, chatted, had snacks and was very well-behaved (only requiring one potty break!) Jackson, on the other hand, was every.where. Up and down the stairs, up and down the aisles, all the way to the front and back, sneaking out into the hall (on rare occasion), and finding a way to be on the move! He made me very tired! I was able to get him to snack a bit and nurse, but for the most part, he was on the go!
The best part about the theater is that you become oblivious to the crying, movement, and rustling. I was surprised to find that most people didn’t even notice Jack moving around or laughed as I exchanged looks with them as he whizzed by. I was able to catch most of the movie with a friend and without hiring a babysitter.
Suggestions:
Come prepared.
Regardless of what age you bring, make sure you bring something they love, be it food or an activity, it will help keep them occupied!
Know the movie.
The next movie up is Rock of Ages and I will not be bringing the boys to that one. It’s all about knowing the content (especially as your kids get older and more understanding).
Don’t be shy {or embarrassed!}
I’ve been nervous in the past with two boys while out and about, but this theater setting was designed just for that purpose! Kids move around, make noises, yell, laugh, cry, squirm. Understand that it’s not just you (and be understanding if it happens to someone else and not you one time!)
Bring a friend.
Consider it a mommy date and enjoy that aspect of it. It’s a great way for an adult activity with your kids!
What movie would you love to watch on the big screen with your friends knowing that you could bring your kids with you?
