This week, I’ll be featuring various things on my 30s Bucket List and update you on my progress. A little under 8 months from today, I’ll be…..a different age. Guest posting today is Melanie Bowen with the Mesolthelioma Cancer Alliance Blog giving some thoughts on setting goals and reaching for the stars!

Blogging and Taking Ownership of Your Goals

Wishes are made on stars and blowing out birthday candles; however, goals are made on paper, or in today’s digital world, on blogs. Far too many of us make the mistake of merely making wishes, most of which strangely fair to materialize. When we learn to empower ourselves by making those dreams and aspirations into concrete goals, mentally our priorities begin to shift. Suddenly, instead of empty promises, we find ourselves with the building blocks of a better future. Blogging allows us to catalog and categorize our greatest dreams and desires. It takes the ephemeral and flighty and pins them down, adding substance to misty wishes.

Go Public With It
According to “The Goal Setting Guide*, one of the most critical steps of setting and goal and then actually achieving it is to “go public” with your game plan. The reason that this is so important stems from the accountability factor. Successful goals are clearly stated, realistic to achieve, are measurable and have a timetable. Wildly successful goals take things a step farther by incorporating an accountability factor to motivate and inspire the goal setter because now, someone else is counting on them to put their money where their mouth is.

Aim For a Record Breaking Recovery
Illnesses has a peculiar ability to deviate your focus when it comes to big picture goal. No matter what the illness is, from migraines, mesothelioma cancer, handling one’s daily obstacles or even dealing with any prognosis; the roller coaster ride between good days and bad days is not only physically draining, but emotionally and mentally draining as well. Taking time out to reach out to your online support network through blogging messages that focus on what you’ll be doing to make tomorrow the best day it can be can instill you with an invigorating sense of purpose and excitement.

Best of all, you’re limited only by your own imagination. If you can dream it, you can do it, especially when friends, family and colleagues all surround you keeping your best interest in mind with love and support. The secret to a happy and healthy life is choosing your battles. Which dream do you want to conquer first?

Reignite Your Passion For Life
Blogs through sites like WordPress and Blogger.com are absolutely free. They can even be easily integrated with your existing Twitter and Facebook accounts so sharing your goals with all of your various fans and followers has never been easier. Take some time right now to rekindle the flame of hope, imagination and achievement. An amazing, adventurous life is calling you. How will you chose to answer the call?
