Worth Days Parade

August 14, 2012

In case you haven’t guessed already, we LOVE parades! This year was no exception. Much like we did in  2009, 2010 and 2011, we ventured to the Worth Days parade. Moxie and Jen joined us again, along with Nick, my mom, Linda, & Eddie. This parade is always a blast and reminds me a lot of my own childhood hanging out right outside my aunt’s beauty shop. Some years we were spectators, other years we cheered on family that was lucky enough to be in the parade.
This year, we battled an overzealous police officer who wouldn’t let the kids go more than a few feet off the curb to get candy. A bit of a problem when the throwers didn’t throw the candy very far! Some loud harumphing and {ahem} informing eliminated that problem after a while.
As usual, the kids had a blast racing after candy and Nick and I were the clean-up crew – snagging the last bits we could see so as not to miss out on any of the wonderful treasures.

Spying something fabulous coming!

Charlie is quite frightened…

YAY! Jack didn’t run away this time!

Cousin hugs

Sweaty from running – don’t they look a little like siblings?
We ended the night with fireworks. of course. And they were late. as usual. But beautiful. as always.

I love parades! We just don’t have many here. I wish we had more.

I would have broken the law and gone after the candy. Arrested probably. I loves my sugar.

We don’t have parades, either, except downtown. It takes tax money to fund those things, unfortunately! Just appreciate what you get living where you do.

Firetruck Santas, Kid’s Days, free festivals, parades, blocked-off block parties…. we get none of that here. About half of towns don’t even have any fireworks for the Fourth, so you have to drive for miles to see a fireworks display. There are no fireworks displays outside of the Fourth except at baseball games.
