As I talked with friends, co-workers, and family these past few weeks, one thing seemed to ring true – at least to some degree, this had been the year of the struggle. Be it personal, financial, professional, emotional, or physical, this year seemed to have some “off” times.
For us, this past month has been exhausting – an already busy time of year was complicated by the stomach flu (for all of us), a hospitalization for Jim, a long-standing nasty cold virus that is STILL lingering, doctors’ appointments and general fatigue & exhaustion. The most joyous time of year quickly became the time of year that we just wanted over.
But as I reflected on our trials as well as the troubles of others, I couldn’t help but think ::
I know several friends expecting babies this year – at least one each month from now until August.
One friend will make a professional move for her family that will be a relief mentally, spiritually, and frankly, physically.
Another friend is expecting her first baby after 7 years of trying, three miscarriages, and countless failed attempts {Hi, baby Nathan!}.
Several other friends are either planning weddings or planning to have a baby {I think this is the year that these families of four each add another!}
Another family is finding their groove after making the shift to a new and higher calling…praying that their endeavors continue to be fruitful and successful.
For us…
Our housing situation will change this year. We don’t know where we’ll end up, but we *hopefully* won’t still be where we are now.
We are headed out of the country and out west! Can.not.wait.
I plan to branch out and try some new things professionally – excited to see those changes come to pass!
As a family, we are all aiming to be healthier – more exercise, less processed junk, and LESS STRESS!
Keep my house clean (this is really for me, but since I haven’t yet mastered this, it’s on the list).
Give more hugs & make more people smile!
I don’t know what this year holds, but I do know the best is yet to come. What are you hoping for in 2013?

Aw, beautiful! I especially like the hug more part!! Many blessings on you and your family as the white pages of uncertainty this year fill with a move and hugs and much, much more!

Great post Samantha! My heart resonates with different seasons of all the aforementioned events in life. Like you, we also had a lot of doctors – medical/health things this year. Glad that is all over and praying it remains over! I definitely hope for good health in 2013 and to build a tribe on my blog and to dive into writing the book that I dream of. Love the hugging more part, too, as that is something I’m weak at. Awesome goal to have!

Great goals! I have many of the same and am also aiming to make this year a much better year!
